Look what arrived in my mailbox yesterday! A reproduction print from a painting by Jade, and she also included these cute japanese fabrics. Thanks Jade! I looooove the print so much, it looks so much better in person. It’s so sweet, and Jade has such great attention to details. The print is titled “no wanna sleep”, and I think it would be just perfect in Annette’s room (since she never wants to go to sleep either!) Check out Jade’s etsy shop for more of her prints!
Flashback friday
I’ve been following with great interest the flashback fridays that Angela started. It’s nice that old photos are not forgotten. I myself love looking at old photos, whether they’re of me, my parents, or someone else’s. I don’t have many of my childhood photos here, most of them are at my parents’ house, thousands of miles away. But I do have an album of my baby photos, which my mum brought here when Annette was born (for lets-see-who-the-baby-look-like purposes 😉 ) This week’s theme is ‘fancy dress’. I can’t find a photo of me in fancy dress, and since this is my first flashback friday posting, how about we just start from the very beginning? This is me and my mum, I was just a few months old here in 1979.
Looks like I had very yummy fingers!
And here’s something new that I’m working on. It’s the Little Majolica sweater from Interweave Knits Fall 2006. The yarn that I’m using is Merinos Fine 100%, by Moda Vera, in pale green and deep brown. I bought them for cheap (I think it was under $3 a ball) at Spotlight, but it’s nice and soft and comes in great colours.
One sock, two socks
I now have a pair of Jaywalker socks, yay! After all the sewing, I kind of miss my knitting. So after the market I immediately picked up the Jays again and got the second sock done.
Pattern: Jaywalker socks, by Grumperina
Yarn: Socks That Rock lightweight in ‘G Rocks’
Needles: 2.5mm circulars, magic looping
Modifications:
– Picot edging instead of ribbing.
– Casted on 68 sts. When I started the first sock, I did the smaller size (76 sts around). But my gauge must have been off, because it turned out too loose for me (of course, I didn’t realise this until I got past the heel, and no, my feet are not super skinny — my gauge was just off because I was using a slightly larger needles than in the pattern). So I just casted on 68 sts, and knitted 6 sts in between the double decreases/increases instead of the 7 or 8.
You might notice that the striping here looks a bit different from the first photo I took of it, because the numbers of stitches per round are different. (Cara did a post explaining the striping behaviour of self-striping yarns here — it’s in the number of stitches!) I kind of preferred the way it was striping before I changed the number of stitches, the stripes seemed more defined somewhat. But I suppose it’s better to have socks that fit isn’t it.
I do love the yarn though, definitely my favourite sock yarn. So soft and easy to work with. And the colours! I just love the colours.
Home again, home again, jiggety jig
Market last Saturday was great! I always love going to markets, poking around the stalls, and this time as a seller I managed to sell some of my tote bags. Happy, happy! It was great to be able to see in person the reaction from people as they see the bag, and what a thrilling experience it was to see people love the bags enough to buy them! 🙂
Here’s a picture that I took, with Corrie there tidying things up.
Belinda and Jade did a great job setting up our stall. In the picture there you can see Belinda’s cushions, Corrie’s Japanese fabrics, Jade’s smocks and pram blankies (a bit out of the picture there, sorry), and my bear softies and tote bags. We also had some bloggers visit us, hi ladies! 🙂
You can see more pictures and market reports from these three ladies who were there with me at the stall. All of us did pretty well at the market, and there’s sure to be more markets in our future. Look out for Belinda, Corrie and Jade at Kirribilli’s Art and Design Market in a few weeks time. I’m going to sit this one out and take a breather, and perhaps join them again later down the track.
Next up, some knitting.
To market, to market
Softies and tote bags for Kirribilli Markets tomorrow.
And look what Corrie brought back from Japan for me!
Some japanese craft books…
On the left is Lotta Jansdotter’s new book, Handmade Project. In the middle is a very cute embroidery book ISBN 4834724212. And on the right is Design collection for kids ISBN 4529042049, another cute embroidery and felt book. I looooove these books!! Will post more detailed photos later when I get a chance.
And some cute japanese fabrics…
Thank you so much, Corrie!! You can also get these fabrics from Corrie’s new shop, www.retromummy.com, which is bringing lovely japanese fabrics, linens, tapes, craft books, etc, to Australian shores! Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff!
Anyway, hope the weather’s good for the market tomorrow. Wish us luck!
